Ambassador - Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe Andrej Slapničar presented the letter of credence to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland in Strasbourg on 4 September 2019.
The Council of Europe is one of the key organizations on the European continent that provides the basis for respect of the international law, the rule of law, human rights and democratic freedoms and democratic principles to which Slovenia is particularly committed. Slovenia remains to respect the conventions adopted by the Council of Europe during the 70 years of its existence which is celebrated this year, in particular, the European Convention on Human Rights, the respect of which is guaranteed by the European Court of Human Rights. For Slovenia it is equally important that this organization, in addition to its many areas, also addresses new challenges, including the issue of artificial intelligence with a focus on the protection of human rights.
